CSSA Zone Soccer

Last Friday, 17 May, Dr Lamont, Mrs Thompson and 13 enthusiastic girls headed off bright and early for the North Coast CSSA Zone Soccer Gala day in Yamba.  Our girls played exceptionally well considering the majority of the team had not played soccer previously and our last minute entry into the competition meant that we only had a brief 20 minute training run with Mr Peck the day prior to the competition.  The girls improved their game play and skills as the day progressed. Results included losses to Coffs Harbour Christian School 4-0,  Summerland Christian College 2-1 and Coffs Harbour 3-0 with our final game against Summerland resulting in a nil all draw, indicating the girls incredible improvement throughout the day.  Congratulations to Brooke, Georgia, Caitlin, Amy, Charlotte and Courtney, Nicole, Emma, Latia, Ammarylla, Katrina, Keira and Rene; your enthusiasm, sportsmanship and excellent behaviour made it a very enjoyable and fun day!

Cross Country

The Secondary School Cross Country was held last Monday 6 May with great participation from students. Congratulations to all who participated in the carnival, especially the following age champions: 12years Eden and Tyrone, 13 years Amaria and Izak, 14 years Jessica and Kytelan, 15 years Courtney and Benjamin, 16 years Georgia and Kaleb, 17 years Catherine and Luke and 18 years Aiden.

On Friday 10 May Mrs Thompson and Mr Buckley took a team of 15 secondary students and 23 Primary students to Casino for the CSSA North Coast Zone Cross Country Carnival being hosted by Casino Christian School.  Our students performed brilliantly on a cross country track that lead them through paddocks, slight hills and mud! Congratulations to all who participated, especially the secondary school placegetters Amaria (4^th – 13yrs Girls), Kytelan (1^st- 14yrs Boys), Jake (3^rd -14yrs Boys), Benjamin (3^rd – 15yrs Boys), Courtney (2^nd – 15yrs Girls), Latia (3^rd – 15 yrs Girls), William (2^nd – 16yrs Girls), Georgia (3^rd – 16yrs Girls), Ammarylla (16yrs Girls) and Luke (1^st – 17yrs Boys).  Thank you to the parents who were able to travel to Casino to support the students.

Students who placed first at the Zone Cross Country in Casino now have the opportunity to travel to Sydney for the CSSA State Cross Country Carnival on Friday 31 May with Mr Peck. We pray they will enjoy the experience of competition at state level.

Zone Athletics Carnival

On Friday, 29 July a number of students attended the Zone Athletics Carnival in Coffs Harbour.  The Senior School bus left Pacific Coast Christian School at 3:30am with lots of excited and overly tired teenagers.  We showed our enthusiasm for the event by being first to arrive at the beautiful venue and prepared ourselves for a great day.  The weather cleared up beautifully which was an answer to prayer and the students performed very well in there events.  Of particular note were those that qualified for the state athletics carnival.  To qualify for State students had to finish in the top two places in their allotted age groupings.

From the junior school Tynan (200m and 400m) and Shekinah (400m) qualified for the State Carnival to be held on the 23 August in Sydney.  From the Senior School, Catherine qualified for the 100m, Long Jump and Shot Put and Charlotte for the Shot Put and discuss.  For the boys Kytelan qualified for the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and long jump.   Benjamin (800m, Discus), Daniel (Shot Put, Discus), Eli (High Jump), Luke (800m) and Aiden (1500m) also qualified for 30 August in Sydney.

In the overall competition Kytelan achieved age champion in the 13yrs boys division which is a fantastic effort.  His brother Tynan achieved second overall in his age group for the junior boys which is to be commended.  Pacific Coast as a school came fourth out of 11 schools that represented for North Coast.  I would like to give a special thanks to the parents that brought down their kids to participate and for helping out on the day which helps make events such as these possible.

Senior School Athletics Carnival

The Senior School Athletics Carnival took place on a beautiful sunny day on Tuesday 19th June at Walter Peate Reserve in Kingscliff.  It was a great day and was wonderful to see so many students participating enthusiasitcally in events and showing a willingness to help out with the running of the events.  Many records were broken and some impressive times and distances were recorded in different events.  Our most competitive age group was the 14yrs boys where all of the boys were involved and showed great competitiveness and team spirit.  It was particularly pleasing to see good sportsmanship evident at the carnival with one student (Kirsty Hergenhan) helping out another student (Caitlin Byrne) when she got injured during a race, sacrificing her own race.  Other students also encouraging students to finish and do their best rather than pull out of events. was a pleasure to witness.  

I would like to thank all the students, staff and parents who helped to put on a fun and successful day!  A special thanks to Mrs Leonard for putting on a barbeque which was much appreciated and tasted fantastic!  The overall winning house for the day was Norman but all houses put on a good showing.  The zone carnival will take place down in Coffs Harbour in week one of Term Three on the 27th July.  Students achieving in the top two posiitons for an event are eligible to attend.  Participants are encouraged to train and stay fit during the holidays so they are able to perform to their best on the day.  

JS Athletics Carnival

It was delightful to see that the JS Athletics Carnival was held on a beautiful sunny Winter's day. The event was well attended by parents and relatives. 

Teachers and parents worked well together to ensure the day ran smoothly. 

It was a wonderful day - the weather, the community spirit, and the way the children joined in.  The PREP to Year 2 competed in the sprints.  The children were excited to receive their ribbons.  

We then split in to three groups for rotational activities.  Group 1 competed in an obstacle relay, group 2 played parachute games and group 3 had a variety of races - egg and spoon race, sack race and three-legged race.  

We thank the parents who assisted with the activities - collating points, handing out stickers for the place-getters, and generally assisting with the organisation of the activities.  

I asked some of the Prep/Kinders what their favourite part of the day was:  'the running race'; 'the egg and spoon race'; and my favourite, 'all of it!'

Most of all, we give praise to God for the great day, for Mr Buckley's organisation of the day, the blessing we have of the oval and for our wonderful families.  

In the Year 3-6 grades students competed in 100m, 200m 400m and 800m running events. Many students showed a fantastic attitude whilst competing against one another. House groups cheered for their fellow team members as quite a number of the races were tightly contested. House winners and age group champions will be announced in the near future. 

We thank God for a wonderful day that generated many precious memories.

 

Zone Cross Country at Lismore

Last Friday, 23 students took the bus down to Summerland Christian College to compete in the zone cross country.  I would like to congratulate the students on their participation in what was a great day.  Unfortunately rain cut the day a little short and the senior boys and girls competed in rainy conditions which made it very tough.  Congratulations to Izak and Luke who won their respective age groups and also to Kytelen, Ashleigh, Ben and Liam who also placed in the top 3 in their events.  

On 1 June, students that finished in the top 6 have been invited to attend the State Christian Schools Cross Country event which will take place in Sydney.  I wish all the students that are going to take part in this event the very best and encourage them to keep up the running and fitness!

CSSA State Swimming

Our special congratulations to our Year 5 student, Lauren who competed in the CSSA State Swimming today. We are very proud to say that she finished in the top 10 for the 50m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. She won her backstroke heat which was a great achievement for her. The Junior School Adidas Fun Run

The Fun Run was held to raise money for Junior School readers, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle to our students. It was a well anticipated day by many of the students and lived up to the expectation of being 'fun'. While the weather was very warm down on the school oval, it did not slow the students down. The younger kids from Mrs Roses' class being impressed with their own efforts and 'running one whole lap'. While the older students, very committed achieved many laps, the heat not slowing them down.

We were delighted at the number of parents who came to cheer the students on, in the shade of an old gum tree.
